Motivational Support Specialists (MSS)

Motivational Support Specialists provide a comprehensive array of services to assist families in building healthy, safe, and productive lifestyles. These specialists provide substance abuse outreach, assessment, screening, intervention, and case management services to families who are involved in the child welfare system. The services offered by MSS are designed to foster the family relationship within the home environment by creating and maintaining connections with behavioral health providers that encourage and support families to work through personal barriers to successful treatment. MSS works closely with child protective investigators and/or dependency case managers in which substance abuse is suspected as a contributing factor to abuse/neglect allegations.

Program referrals may be made during the initial child abuse investigation or at any point during child protective supervision or out-of-home care. In an effort to meet the needs of the families being served, the MSS program offers flexible hours of operation Monday through Friday. It is important to understand that MSS does not function as the primary treatment counselor but coordinates Behavioral Health services.
