Children & Family Services

Motivational Support Specialists provide substance abuse outreach, assessment/screening, linkage to providers and treatment, assistance in removing barriers for treatment, motivation and support for family to assist in removing barriers to successful substance abuse treatment outcomes, intervention and case management services to parents/caregivers, significant others, household residents and their children who are involved in the child welfare system, including protective investigators or a dependency court in which substance abuse is suspected as a contributing factor to abuse/neglect allegations.

Referrals may be made during the initial child abuse/neglect investigation or at any point during child protective supervision or out-of-home care. Services are provided Monday through Friday with flexible hours to meet the needs of the family they support. If feasible, some of the direct family support services will be provided in-home. It is important to understand that FIS does not function as the primary treatment counselor, but acts as consultant and coordinator with protective service providers.
